Four outstanding soloists join Bristol Symphony for Brief Encounter, an evening of music exploring themes of love, life, death and transfiguration.

Rachmaninov’s Second Piano Concerto, featured in David Lean’s 1945 film Brief Encounter, is one of the composer’s most enduringly popular pieces. We welcome pianist Nicholas Oliver as soloist.

Tonight’s performance of Cariad Cyntaf (First Love) by Charlie Lovell-Jones - an outstanding young talent - is a Bristol premiere. Charlie appears as violin soloist alongside international soprano, Rebecca Evans.

Following Strauss’s tone poem Death and Transfiguration, the concert concludes with Tchaikovsky’s intimate Andante Cantabile for cello and strings, with soloist Keith Tempest.

Our concert is dedicated to the memory of cellist, Sara Lovell: colleague, dear friend and family member.
