Four outstanding soloists join Bristol Symphony for Brief Encounter, an evening of music exploring themes of love, life, death and transfiguration.

​

Rachmaninov’s Second Piano Concerto, featured in David Lean’s 1945 film Brief Encounter, is one of the composer’s most enduringly popular pieces. We welcome pianist Nicholas Oliver as soloist.

​

Tonight’s performance of Cariad Cyntaf (First Love) by Charlie Lovell-Jones - an outstanding young talent - is a Bristol premiere. Charlie appears as violin soloist alongside international soprano, Rebecca Evans.

​

Following Strauss’s tone poem Death and Transfiguration, the concert concludes with Tchaikovsky’s intimate Andante Cantabile for cello and strings, with soloist Keith Tempest.

​

Our concert is dedicated to the memory of cellist, Sara Lovell: colleague, dear friend and family member.
