The Bristol Symphony Experience

St Peter's Hospice 40th Anniversary Ruby Dinner - Auction

28 June 2018

Lot 5: Bristol Symphony Orchestra Experience

'Discover your inner maestro and experience a chance to master conducting a 70-piece Symphony Orchestra with Emmy0Winning Conductor and Artist Director of Bristol Symphony Orchestra'.

St Peter's Hospice held a Ruby Dinner to celebrate the charity's 40th Anniversary in June 2018. As part of Bristol Symphony's year long support of St Peter's Hospice, we offered a Bristol Symphony experience as one of the auction lots on the night.

The lot raised £600 for the charity. Five months on, and the winner, Peter Wilde, has done really well and won over the Orchestra for his warmth, keen spirit and enthusiasm.

The Bristol Symphony Experience package included a one-hour guided conducting lesson with our Artistic Director and Conductor William Goodchild, followed by a half-hour conducting session at one of the Orchestra's rehearsals; four complimentary tickets to our next concert formed the other part of the lot.

Last Monday William Goodchild moved aside to let Peter Wilde conduct Bristol Symphony. Peter did an excellent job. As William said, "On the basis of a single conducting lesson and a great deal of personal preparation, Peter took on the challenge of conducting Bizet’s Prelude from Carmen with Bristol Symphony in rehearsal. He was fully in charge from his first downbeat and led the ensemble with style, energy and intensity. The Orchestra immediately warmed to Peter and his conducting debut was, without doubt, a roaring success! Bravo, Bravissimo, Peter!"

You can see Bristol Symphony Orchestra perform March from Carmen by Bizet, and many other wonderful pieces at A Night at The Opera on Saturday November 24th at Clifton Cathedral. More details and tickets: HERE. The concert is in support of St Peter's Hospice.
