Bristol Symphony Quartet's visit to King's Forest Primary School
This November the Bristol Symphony Quartet visited King's Forest Primary School in Kingswood. Year 2 were learning about Mozart and the quartet were invited to the school to play them some of his music (along with a few extra pieces!). Sarah, Pam, Anita and Emma introduced their instruments, and music was interspersed with many questions from the children about playing, learning an instrument, reading music and - memorably - why Anita's stand was blue rather than black (sensibly, the answer was so she didn't lose it in a sea of black stands after BSO rehearsals...). The quartet played several pieces by Mozart and finished with a rendition of 'Let it Go', to demonstrate the range of music that quartets can play. The afternoon was rounded off by a full school assembly where the quartet played another movement from Mozart's Eine Kleine, carefully paired with John Williams' Star Wars. Some of the children had never seen instruments played live and their rapt attention and inquisitive questions demonstrated just how inspiring it was for them to get up close to the music.
