DvoÅ™ák Cello Concerto in B minor
Brahms Symphony No 2 in D

The fabulous Jonathan Rees joins forces with Robert Weaver and the Bristol Symphony Orchestra.

After hearing the news that his childhood sweetheart was desperately ill, DvoÅ™ák poured his heart and soul into a Cello Concerto that burns with sorrow, tenderness and beauty. The fabulous Jonathan Rees joins forces with Robert Weaver and the Bristol Symphony Orchestra in a concert that opens with Philip Herbert’s Elegy – a reflection on the tragedy of Stephen Lawrence’s murder in London thirty years ago – and ends with the majestic second symphony by DvoÅ™ák’s greatest musical friend, Johannes Brahms. This is a work that stands out as one of Brahms’s greatest musical achievements, immersing the audience in inspired orchestration, a devastatingly powerful Adagio, and a triumphant finale.
