Herbert Elegy: In Memoriam – Stephen Lawrence
Dvořák Cello Concerto in B minor
Brahms Symphony No 2 in D

The fabulous Jonathan Rees joins forces with Robert Weaver and the Bristol Symphony Orchestra.

After hearing the news that his childhood sweetheart was desperately ill, Dvořák poured his heart and soul into a Cello Concerto that burns with sorrow, tenderness and beauty. The fabulous Jonathan Rees joins forces with Robert Weaver and the Bristol Symphony Orchestra in a concert that opens with Philip Herbert’s Elegy – a reflection on the tragedy of Stephen Lawrence’s murder in London thirty years ago – and ends with the majestic second symphony by Dvořák’s greatest musical friend, Johannes Brahms. This is a work that stands out as one of Brahms’s greatest musical achievements, immersing the audience in inspired orchestration, a devastatingly powerful Adagio, and a triumphant finale.
